We were engaged by our client to carry out the filtration of produced water on their production platform in the North Sea. Produced water is a term used in the oil industry to describe water that is produced as a byproduct during the extraction of oil and natural gas.
About Our Client
Our client is an international independent Exploration and Production (E&P) company, with a focus on the North Sea, North Africa and Asia Pacific regions.
The Problem
Produced water is an unavoidable by-product of oil and gas production and treatment is now more important than ever due to increasing environmental legislation. The current Oil Spill Prevention, Administration and Response (OSPAR) limit is 30 ppm of oil in water returned to sea.
On this occasion, the produced water was in excess of this limit and had the potential to damage the environment, impact our client's reputation and ultimately lead to prosecution.
What We Did
We supplied and installed our proprietary SepSORB® filtration system.
Value Gained
Hydrocarbon content in the produced water was consistently and permanently reduced to below 30 ppm. Typically the level was no more than 5 ppm. Our SepSORB® system has the added benefit of being quick and easy to install, does not require personnel during operation and the filter media can normally be reactivated and reused.
Project Statistics
Separo's proprietary SepSORB® filtration system reduced hydrocarbon content in produced water to no more than 5 ppm and regularly 1 ppm.
